FW: A Second Before Death

If you know me, you know that I am pretty nerdy. Of course, I enjoy watching LOST and all it's confusing twists and turns and willing to wait til 2010 for it to come back on the air. Well anyway, my dad was trying to log into some website, but couldn't so he asked me to help him out. I get all that settled and then we are in his email trying to figure out how to get the new Yahoo mail to be bigger. The main things he gets in his email are forwards from his relatives and siblings about random things. He likes to show me these things sometimes. Well the one he showed me today was subjected "A Second Before Death" and it is about some plane that crashed into another plane over Brazil. It provided two photos.


These are supposed to be pictures of the cabin right before the crash.

I thought to myself....no way...these can't be real. Then I turned to my dad and said...you know what? This really looks like LOST. So I go searching the web for LOST plane crash, and what do ya know? I find a youtube video.

If you scroll to about 3 minutes and 50 seconds, you find that the scenes look strangely similar. I looked at my dad and told him "do this look familiar to you?" He started chuckling and then replied back to his cousin who sent it to him with the youtube video and then to his other cousin who he forwarded it to.

It is rather strange that I can just look at those two blurry pictures and associate it with LOST. Maybe I watch it too much? I don't know, but I do love that show haha. Oh and upon closer inspection, the lady in the front left is Kate.

Playing Like A 6 Year Old

So Steph and I get bored sometimes at her place and we tend to mope around and then end up in the kitchen to get a snack. Afterwards, we go to the living room and we play with the sofa cushions and pillows. It is pretty fun haha. We took some pictures. They are on her blog. http://stephs.tumblr.com/ . Personally, I like making a stack of pillows and jumping on them. I did however land pretty hard and had to stop my self from hitting the ground and then kinda hurt my wrists, but it was brief pain.

Last Saturday

Went to Stony Point Mall with Steph and Chewie last Saturday. It was pretty hot out, but it was a good walk. Took a few pictures of Steph and Chewie with my point and shoot. Here they are.

Better Blogging

In all, my blog posts are mediocre. I got Zemanta that Blogger recommended on my home computer now. I just read about Windows Live Writer in PC Magazine I got a few days ago.

Zemanta is a pretty cool plug in that suggests pictures you can put into your blog and it also suggests tags to better organize it. I am no good with tags especially so that will help me out a bit.

Windows Live Writer is a program that I could run on my desktop and publish at sometime. I have yet to try it and thus am unable to talk about it.

I will give it a try sometime when I am free between work, Steph, eating, sleeping, and reading.
Heh I keep myself busy.

E-Books

So I picked up reading e-books. I am not quite sure why, but it is something more productive I can do with my time than play games. I just started, so I am on page 26 of How to Sleep and Have More Energy. I learned a few random things so far. Such as our body fluctuates 3 degrees throughout the day. Colder when you're sleepy and warmer when you have more energy and are more awake. Most people have the most energy around 6 or 7 PM.

So I hope to finish this one soon and start another one. All I need is a Kindle. That would make reading so much easier than flipping my laptop so it is in portrait mode. I don't really do that though because it is too big to do that...

Google Analytics Part 2

So after reading up on a lot of Google Analytic's reports, it all makes a lot more sense to me now. I have learned a lot of things just by watching segments of seminars and reading about the different reports. Sounds nerdy I know, but for web developing, it is rather useful.

So for a blog, I won't get the greatest results, but the type of site really determines some of my stats. Such as my bounce rate. It is absurdly high, but then again, how often will someone view another page of posts or click on a post to just view the single post itself.

I feel like a more educated person. Let me apply my knowledge now.

Rhino Virus

More commonly known as the common cold has struck me slightly, but hit Stephanie hard. So now I am at Steph's taking care of her. She is sleeping after I gave her some Dimetapp. It may say children's, but it hits you hard as an adult. I pulled out the Vicks Vaporizer with the Vaposteam stuff in it. It smells menthol-ly in here now.

Yesterday I went to my cousin's grad party. I knew a few of his friends, but I didn't know them know them. Played some soccer on my bum knee and had some graduation cake.

Today I worked for 127tech. Had a Cap One move. Sam and Kevin were there so I talked to them since I hadn't seen them in a while. Good catching up with them.

Anyways I'll post a more interesting update sometime. Sounds like someone is waking up behind me.

The IT Crowd

Being a nerd n all, this show is rather funny. It is a British comedy about a company's IT crowd and their lives. They are done with their third season now. The antics they go through are so funny. You just gotta watch it. Also a lot of nerd jokes are thrown around and I tend to laugh at them.

NBC was supposed to do an American spin off of it, but it never aired sadly. Oh well. Youtube gives me plenty to watch about the show.

Anyway, been working my usual shifts lately. I like this job because it is rather easy and laid back. I gotta say though, I am a pro and disconnecting and reconnecting PC's and making them look neat. Good ol' 127tech for three years got me there. :P I am like lightning with those cables haha.
I gotta get used to working a regular schedule now though. I tend to be more tired in the afternoons now. Maybe it is the lack of daylight I see inside the buildings and the basement of the Grace building.
I also need to find something to do for the weekends that pay me. I need some dinero and I need it now.
Let's see what else is there to talk about....I recently fixed up my cousin's computer. It had so much malware on it. Ew. So many update/security bypasses on it.

Hmm well I am fresh out of ideas. Back to the IT Crowd.

I loved this cartoon as a child! It was such a catchy song then, and it still is now!

I heard this song on the indie station based in Charlottesville. I like the end more than anything else in this song, but what else I saw in this video blew my mind!

Typing this mess on my dad's freshly repaired computer. It is now running Ubuntu 9.xx. Code name Jaunty Jackalope. Funny name :P

Woo I get paid tomorrow! I do need the money. Gas is terrible and I need to pay for the cruise I am going on with the fam and significant others. Merh.

BAH the shift key is really hard to press on this keyboard. It like sticks in the up position so I have a hard time pushing it down. Maybe I should utilize my right hand and use that shift key, but then again, it takes too much effort lol. It would be one of those things I would have to concentrate about to do.

Right now I am working on my cousin's PC. (bah this whole keyboard sticks.) They were complaining about slowness, so I took it home and found several viruses/trojans/security threats/etc etc. So now it is getting the update treatment after I cleared out the malware.

Well I have work tomorrow. It will be another ordinary day of learning the in's and out's of the shop and tasks that need to be done.

Oh on a side note about work, the building I used to work at used to be a hospital. So we work in the basement and there is a storage closet we call the morgue. Well wouldn't ya know, that "the morgue" used to be the actual morgue.....The whole slidey drawer body tray things are still in the wall and there is drain coming out of the wall and into a drain on the ground. It stores old gym equipment and computer parts now. It kinda looks like that picture, but not really. The drawers are horizontal and stacked on top of each other. Bah don't look up morgue on Google images. That was rather gross.

A Life Update

So I am currently in my brother's room because some people who live in Cali and North Carolina are here at the moment and my room was commandeered to be a room they stay in. Ugh. The comforter in my brother's room stinks. I'll just be wearing a hoodie for tonight I suppose.

Anyways, Memorial Weekend I went to Lake Anna to spend time with Steph because she was visiting her family. We hung out in the common area of the neighborhood and made those slow shutter pics with the Olympus camera I got. I never used the bulb setting before so it was a good experiment. Also we watched Meet the Robinsons. That was a funny movie. "I have a big head and little arms." Haha oh T-Rexs. I went home Monday morning and just napped most of the day away.

I started working at HAStech at VCU on Wednesday. So far it has been ok. Doesn't really seem like work to me. It is pretty slow paced. So far I have just delivered fixed stuff and set up printers and networked them. Set up a few work stations and such. Going to learn how to image computers and yeah....Oh I did get to destory a camcorder to get the tape out. That was exciting lol. I got my own set of keys and everything to work at HAStech. Yay. That last sentence kinda just jumps topics so quickly :P.

And now I am here. Typing away at the computer when I should be sleeping. I will probably pass out after this post.

I started to try out Hulu Desktop. It is kinda like Windows Media Center, but only for Hulu. So far it is pretty cool. I will try hooking it up to my big tv and see how things go. Hopefully it won't be too pixelated.

Umm what else do I want to share to the world. I am not quite sure. Not too much goes on in my life. Other than I wish I took more pictures, I don't have much.

Ukrop's Picnic and Oven Baked Fried Chicken

So today was the annual Ukrop's Picnic on the Ukrop Ranch. It was awfully chilly and there was a slight drizzle on and off. The food kind of downgraded. I remember it went from shrimp on the menu to now it is BBQ sandwiches and hot dogs and the sides. It is still a fun thing though. So many Ukrop people. There was a giant inflatable slide, a dunking booth, an ice cream truck full of Nestle and Briars novelty frozen treats, the usual sports competitions, and of course the food. The highlight of the food is usually the watermelon and loads of it. The picnic was fun despite me being cold.


Afterwards I went to Steph's, went to Kroger (ironic lol), and had some din. She made oven bake fried chicken and mashed potatoes. I shucked and boiled the corn :P. It was qutie delicious and now we are relaxing at my house.

Nused Camera

My uncle sent me another camera (Olympus Camedia E-10) he does not know how to use. It is an intermediate camera. Lens isn't interchangeable, but has separate focus and zoom rings. It has a nice wide zoom lens on it (9-36mm) with f stops form 2.0 - 11. ISO speeds are weirdly numbers and low. I think the max is 320. So no low light, no flash photos there, or very limited. Live view LCD, but is not the greatest quality. It conveniently pops out though for those odd angles. I haven't really had time to play with it since it is exams week, but I'll try to post some samples. The camera also came with a wide angle converter also. I forget the specs on it. So we shall see how this 4MP wide angle lens camera works for me.

Some of the pluses it has over the Powershot Pro 1 he gave me before are:
Bulb mode
Extremely wide angle
Runs on AA batteries (Easy power source to find)
Optical viewfinder
Separate zoom and focus rings
3x zoom lens adds an extra 4 pounds for a whopping 108mm zoom.

Some cons:
Weird button placement (I am used to Canon's setup)
Very sensitive shutter release
LCD screen for live view is not very crisp
Runs on AA batteries (Kills them fast. Need rechargeables)
White balance is measured in K instead of the user friendly Sunny, Cloudy, etc etc
Low ISO speeds

I can't think of much more at the moment. I need to get back to studying. I'll update on Thursday or Friday.

Exam Week(s)

Its about that time of the year again where I am constantly on a caffeine buzz, sitting in really quiet places listening to music, and remembering information for a 2 hour exam which following the exam will forget. It is quite an exciting process, especially when I have 8 AM exams or two exams in a single day. Afterward though, I get to have a Summer break :). So five exams! PREPARE TO BE ACED!

Btw, don't buy the Red Bull at Tuckahoe Libary Cafe. It costs $2.50 for the little cans. Dam my desperate needs for caffeine.

School

Brother's 25th

Blahh I couldn't fall asleep last night. I think it might have been 5 AM before my body just wore out and passed out.

Yesterday was my brother's 25th birthday. We had dinner with the family at Full Kee. Probably one of the better Chinese restaurants in Richmond. It can be a bit pricey, but it has some good food. We had some fish stomach soup, salt and pepper shrimp, a HUGE flounder, pan fried noodles, and this slow cook pot thing (I dunno what its called). For dessert we got a coconut gelatin in a coconut where the juice was used as the mixer and topped with a layer of coconut milk and then we got some sesame sticky bun like things with red bean paste in the middle. It was a big and good dinner.

Poor VCU Basketball

Sadly VCU lost to to UCLA tonight. They were sooooo close! 64-65 in the end. Maynor almost made his game winning shot, but came up short of the cigar. The first half was a pretty close game, but come the second half, UCLA was all over VCU until the very end. Those few three pointers just rejuvinated the team. In the end though, they put up a very good game and came inches away from a major upset!

Looks like Lil' Wayne and Barack Obama were wrong about this one.

New Layout

Edit: I got the empty space to fill in :D. I just remembered I had to put a footer to make it fill in!

Yay! New layout. The Twitter widget tends to slow down my blog loading speed. I am debating on whether or not to remove it. Maybe I will just put a link to it in my links section. In Firefox, the sidebar does not seem to want to span all the way to the bottom to make a neat white box, but in IE it works. So I don't know what is going on there.

Anyways, I hope you like the layout!

Sitting Around For Now

Wow this class is insanely boring. Apparently I am not the only one that thinks this. Other than half the class missing, the back three rows are on their notebooks. Someone is playing Sonic that's how bad it is getting.

I think I am going to start trying to bring my point and shoot camera around more often. I could bring my bigger one in my backpack, but the point and shoot would be easier. I am going to save up for a DSLR now. I need like 700 dollars. Hopefully I can get it by mid summer or so.

Anywyas, I am also trying to get into Twitter more and going to change the layout of this page eventually.

Snow ?

So it snowed last week, and its supposed to snow again. Bah crazy Virginia weather. Its supposed to hit 69 on Wednesday too. Maybe its global warming? Heh.

That's my dad and brother working on the drive way. Dad is on a smoke break.
